One-Day National Seminar on “Contemporary Punjabi Society: Emerging Issues and Challenges"
ਗੁਰੂ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਸਿੰਘ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਕਾਲਜ ਜੰਡਿਆਲਾ ਵਿਖੇ ਪ੍ਰਿੰ.(ਡਾ.) ਜਗਸੀਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਬਰਾੜ ਦੀ ਯੋਗ ਅਗਵਾਈ ਵਿਚ ਕਾਲਜ ਵਿਖੇ "ਸਮਕਾਲੀ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਸਮਾਜ ਦੇ ਉੱਭਰਦੇ ਮਸਲੇ ਅਤੇ ਚੁਣੌਤੀਆਂ" ਵਿਸ਼ੇ ਤੇ ਇਕ ਰੋਜ਼ਾ ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਸੈਮੀਨਾਰ ਕਰਵਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ। ਸੈਮੀਨਾਰ ਦੀ ਸ਼ੁਰੂਆਤ ਵਿਚ ਕਾਲਜ ਪ੍ਰਿੰ. (ਡਾ.) ਜਗਸੀਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਬਰਾੜ ਵਲੋਂ ਆਏ ਹੋਏ ਮਹਿਮਾਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜੀ ਆਇਆ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ। ਇਸ ਸੈਮੀਨਾਰ ਦਾ ਉਦਘਾਟਨ ਮੁੱਖ ਮਹਿਮਾਨ ਡਾ.ਲਖਵਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੌਹਲ, ਚੇਅਰਮੈਨ, ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਰਾਈਟਰਜ਼ ਕੋਆਪਰੇਟਿਵ ਸੁਸਾਇਟੀ, ਲੁਧਿਆਣਾ ਨੇ ਕੀਤਾ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਸਮਕਾਲੀਨ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਸਮਾਜ ਦੇ ਵਿਭਿੰਨ ਮੁੱਦਿਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਚੁਣੋਤੀਆਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਜਾਣਕਾਰੀ ਸਾਂਝੀ ਕੀਤੀ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਸ਼ਹਿਰੀਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਤੇ ਪਰਿਵਾਰਿਕ ਸੰਘਰਸ਼ ਤੇ ਵਿਸਥਾਰ ਪੂਰਵਕ ਚਰਚਾ ਕੀਤੀ। ਸੈਮੀਨਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਸ਼੍ਰੀਮਤੀ ਵਨੀਤਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਆਡੀਸ਼ਨਲ ਪ੍ਰਜੈਕਟ ਡਾਇਰੈਕਟਰ, ਰੂਸਾ, ਪੰਜਾਬ ਨੇ ਪੰਜਾਬੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਪਹਿਚਾਣ ਅਤੇ ਪਰਵਾਸ ਵਰਗੇ ਮੁੱਦਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਬਾਰੇ ਚਰਚਾ ਕੀਤੀ। ਸੈਮੀਨਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਪਹੁੰਚੇ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਮਹਿਮਾਨ ਡਾ.ਅਜੈ ਸਾਹਨੀ, ਕਾਰਜਕਾਰੀ ਡਾਇਰੈਕਟਰ, ਇੰਡਿਅਨ ਇੰਸਟੀਚੁਐਂਟ ਆਫ ਕਨਫਿਲਿਕਟ ਮੈਨਜਮੈਂਟ, ਨਵੀਂ ਦਿੱਲੀ ਨੇ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਤੇ ਪਹਿਚਾਣ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਰੱਖਿਅਤ ਰੱਖਣ ਲਈ ਸੰਵਾਦ ਕੀਤਾ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਅੱਜ ਦੀ ਨੌਜਵਾਨ ਪੀੜ੍ਹੀ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਤ-ਪਾਤ ਦੇ ਵਿਤਕਰੇ ਨੂੰ ਖਤਮ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੀ ਨੁਹਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਨਿਖਾਰਣ ਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਹੈ। ਸੈਮੀਨਾਰ ਦੇ ਟੈਕਨੀਕਲ ਸ਼ੈਸ਼ਨ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਡਾ. ਬਲੀ ਬਹਾਦਰ, ਐਸੋਸੀਏਟ ਪ੍ਰੋਫੈਸਰ, ਸ਼ਸ਼ੋਲੋਜੀ ਵਿਭਾਗ, ਸੈਂਟਰਲ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਆਫ ਪੰਜਾਬ, ਬਠਿੰਡਾ ਨੇ ਸਮਾਜਕ ਅਤੇ ਆਰਥਿਕ ਮੁੱਦਿਆ ਉੱਪਰ ਚਰਚਾ ਕੀਤੀ। ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਪੱਛਮੀ ਦੇਸ਼ਾ ਦੇ ਰੀਤੀ-ਰਿਵਾਜਾਂ ਦਾ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਸੱਭਿਆਚਾਰ ਤੇ ਤੇਜ਼ੀ ਨਾਲ ਵੱਧ ਰਿਹਾ ਅਸਰ ਬਾਰੇ ਸੰਵਾਦ ਕੀਤਾ। ਡਾ. ਰਾਜਵਿੰਦਰ ਕੌਰ ਬਾਠ , ਅਸਿਸਟੈਂਟ ਪ੍ਰੋਫੈਸਰ, ਸਰਕਾਰੀ ਕਾਲਜ ਦਾਨੇਵਾਲ, ਮਲੋਟ, ਪੰਜਾਬ ਨੇ ਸੈਮੀਨਾਰ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਅਜੋਕਾ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਸਮਾਜ ਤੇ ਆਧੁਨਿਕ ਯੁੱਗ ਦੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਸ਼ੈਲੀ ਅਤੇ ਆਦਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਬਾਰੇ ਸੰਵਾਦ ਕੀਤਾ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਿੱਟੀ ਅਤੇ ਪਾਣੀ ਪ੍ਰਦੂਸ਼ਣ, ਨੌਜਵਾਨ ਪੀੜ੍ਹੀ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਧ ਰਹੇ ਨਸ਼ਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਰੁਝਾਨ ਬਾਰੇ ਚਰਚਾ ਕੀਤੀ। ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਪਿੰਡ ਦੇ ਸਾਬਕਾ ਸਰਪੰਚ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਮੱਖਣ ਲਾਲ ਪੱਲਣ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੀਮਤੀ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਸਾਂਝੇ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਨਸ਼ਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਖਤਮ ਕਰਨ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਅਪਣਾਉਣ ਸੰਬੰਧੀ ਚਰਚਾ ਕੀਤੀ। ਸੈਮੀਨਾਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਡਾ. ਲਖਵਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੌਹਲ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਵਿੱਚ "ਸ੍ਰ. ਗੁਰਦੀਪ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੌਹਲ ਯਾਦਗਾਰੀ ਪੁਰਸਕਾਰ" ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਐਲਾਨ ਕੀਤਾ। ਜਿਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਬੀ.ਏ.ਫਾਈਨਲ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਫਸਟ ਕਲਾਸ ਫਸਟ ਆਉਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀ ਨੂੰ ਹਰ ਸਾਲ ਜੌਹਲ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਵਲੋਂ ਗਿਆਰਾਂ ਹਜ਼ਾਰ ਰੁਪਏ ਨਕਦ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਜਾਇਆ ਕਰਨਗੇ।ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਕਾਲਜ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਿੰਸੀਪਲ (ਡਾ.) ਜਗਸੀਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਬਰਾੜ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਆਏ ਹੋਏ ਮੁੱਖ ਮਹਿਮਾਨ, ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਮਹਿਮਾਨ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਸਰੋਤ ਸ਼ਖਸ਼ੀਅਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਨਮਾਨ ਚਿੰਨ੍ਹ ਭੇਟ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਧੰਨਵਾਦ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੀਮਤੀ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਸਭ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝੇ ਕੀਤੇ। ਸੈਮੀਨਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਇਲਾਕੇ ਦੇ ਦੂਰ-ਦਰਾਡੇ ਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਕਾਲਜ ਅਤੇ ਸਕੂਲਾਂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਿੰਸੀਪਲ, ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਪਿੰਡ ਦੇ ਪਤਵੰਤੇ ਸੱਜਣਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਜੰਡਿਆਲਾ ਦੇ ਮੌਜੂਦਾ ਸਰਪੰਚ ਕੰਵਲਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਸ਼ਿਰਕਤ ਕੀਤੀ। ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਕਾਲਜ ਦਾ ਸਮੂਹ ਸਟਾਫ਼ ਮੈਂਬਰ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀ ਹਾਜ਼ਰ ਸਨ।
Under the aegis of Prof. (Dr.) Karamjeet Singh, Vice Chancellor of Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, and under the dynamic leadership of Dr. Jagsir Singh Brar, Principal of Guru Gobind Singh University College, Jandiala Manjki, a one-day national seminar was successfully organized on the theme “Contemporary Punjabi Society: Emerging Issues and Challenges.”
The seminar commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp, symbolizing the dispelling of ignorance and the ushering in of knowledge.
The event was formally inaugurated by Dr. Lakhwinder Singh Johal, Chairman of the Punjab Writers' Cooperative Society, Ludhiana. In his inaugural address, he shed light on the pressing challenges and emerging issues confronting contemporary Punjabi society.
The seminar was graced by distinguished Chief Guests – Smt. Vaneeta Anand, Additional Project Director, RUSA, Punjab, and Dr. Ajay Sahni, Director of the Indian Institute of Conflict Management, New Delhi. Both dignitaries emphasized the pivotal role of the Punjabi language in preserving cultural identity and stressed the importance of collective efforts for its promotion and preservation.
During the technical session, several eminent scholars presented insightful papers. Dr. Bali Bahadur, Associate Professor, Department of Sociology, Central University of Punjab, Bathinda, delivered an engaging presentation on “Migration: A Boon or Bane?” highlighting the socio-economic impacts of migration on Punjab.
Dr. Rajwinder Kaur Bath, Assistant Professor, Government College, Danewal, Malout, addressed the agrarian crisis, focusing on critical issues such as the declining groundwater levels and deteriorating soil health.
In a thought-provoking address, Mr. Makhan Lal Pallan, President, Jandiala Lok Bhalai Manch, spoke passionately about the role of education in combating the drug menace in Punjab, underlining the need for community awareness and proactive youth engagement.
The seminar witnessed active participation from principals and students of various schools and colleges, along with prominent members of the village community and the entire teaching and non-teaching staff of the college.
The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Lakhwinder Singh Johal, who commended Dr. Jagsir Singh Brar for his efforts in organizing this meaningful and impactful seminar. He acknowledged the contributions of all speakers and participants, emphasizing the continued relevance of such academic dialogues in addressing Punjab’s socio-cultural challenges.
